The Houston Yacht Club was excited to be chosen to host the 2007 RIWKC, knowing that the experiment of moving the event off the East Coast for the first time would be a challenge for us to put on an excellent regatta.

From the reaction of competitors, judges, sponsors, and volunteers we feel this challenge was met most successfully.

The 2007 survey summaries indicate the high level of approval for all aspects of the week. We were blessed with good weather which offered a variety of racing conditions; we threw some great and unique parties; and as one judge put it, "The fun meter all week was way over to right -- when that happens you have a great event."

In particular, the HYC volunteers have come in for big kudos for their friendly Texas hospitality and willingness to go the extra mile to meet any competitor's need. Once more, I'll take this opportunity to thank our wonderful local sponsors, US SAILING for guidance and direction, and in particular, Rolex for their great generosity on so many fronts. It was my distinct honor and pleasure to chair the 2007 RIWKC (I had a ball!), and we are eagerly looking forward to an even bigger and better championship in 2009 with Marie Wise as chair. "Ya'll come, you hear?"
